Default LS1 Cooling System Parameters

Don't have my service manual yet. Wondering if someone could provide me with the following info for a 2003 LS1:

1. Temperature at which the thermostat starts to open.
2. Temperature where it is fully open.
3. Temperatures when the two fans start.

Thanks.

I have the 2002 manual, but it shouldn't be much if any different. From what I could gleam from it, the 195*F thermostat should begin opening at 188*F and be fully open at 206*F. Couldn't find anything about the fans. Strange. I do remember reading something somewhere about either 217 or 225 degrees F.
Bonus: At 256*F you will get a COOLANT OVER TEMP in the message center. At 268*F the PCM begins shutting down fuel injectors........

My experience is that the stock thermo starts to open around 150. To check start with a cold engine and let it idle while feeling the temperature of the upper radiator hose. The hose gets noticeably hotter when the DIC indicates a temp in the 150 to 155 range. Once the thermo is fully open it holds the temp around 192 to 195 unless the fan isn't on or the car isn't moving.

Bill, thanks much. I'll do that. Hope you are staying warm. My brother and son both live in Endicott. Right now I'm wearing a $50,000 Binghamton University sweatshirt - what it cost me to send the son there. Bruce.

Using the stove top test the stock T-stat began opening at 195 and fully open at 205.

Thanks. That would be consistent with what I see when driving. Temp goes to the mid 190's, then stays there at steady speeds.
