I bought my car off the dealer's lot and it came with 2.73.
After one year I had the rearend changed to 3.15 and have been happy with the change. :D

No, you can not always downshift yourself. the PCm will not allow it above certain mph. it also makes no sense to downshift and jerk the engine to 6000 rpm, there is no powere to be gained. The 2.73 axle has a clear advantage in the 75 to 100 mph area and every 2.73 axle vette will pull away froma 3.15 axle vette. stock for stock of course. try it and report back to us what you found!

A 3.15 car will not shift into second anymore above 75 mph or so and even at 70 mph

humm , then why does the A4/315 geared C5 have a higher mph ?
The 315 will also leave a 273 from a 70 mph roll any day of the week .
My C5 will automaticly down shift at 70 mph and ROCK up to 90 in the blink of an eye .
I also drove 2 x 273 A4s before buying my 315/A4 and it was a totaly different car.
315 is the way to go if your ordering the car .
Hell , tell the dealer you want to drive a 315 car and a 272 car and compair them yourself .
The 315 will also leave a 273 from a 70 mph roll any day of the week .

YES!! I would definetly get the 3:15's over the 2:73's. In my opinion the C5's with the 2.73's are dogs. Unless you are considering buying deeper gears like 3:73's or 3:90's then I would buy this option. Kaley
