I've set the 3rd gear lock-up at 100mph in the TCC tables and in the
Threshhold MPH. The release speed in both is set at 58mph. It won't lock in
3rd at 100% TP. Anybody got any tips on what I'm doin wrong? I don't think
testing it in 3rd is the problem. How about release speed in the threshhold table?
It's my understanding from the LS1 Digest that there may be a hard code issue and the only way to effectively lock it in any gear at WOT is via a hard wired switch between the trans and the PCM. That's what most do anyway. If you figure out how to do it otherwise, please let me know.
You can certainly try via LS1 edit, but it doesn't actually hold the TC locked. It may look like it on scan tools like ATAP, etc, but the only REAL way to lock the TC in 3rd is to use a Tech 2, and do it manually, or hard wire the TC solenoid to ground (not the PCM as I stated earlier) and engage it for the run.
That's how the serious LSX cars are doing it locally, both on track and on the dyno. Which brings up a really good point. Some unscrupulous performance shops will butcher your wiring just in the name of showing a few more hp on their dyno and then just reattach the wiring with some cheap connectors or just twisted with electrical tape. A local shop has been busted here MANY times.
The downside to manually locking the TC under WOT and some power is that you may shorten the lif expectancy of the clutch disk material. I only know of one source for multiple clutch disks to handle this sort of abuse and that's Precision Industries. If I remember right, you can go from one disk to three or even five! That way you have more material to come in contact at high speed/high rpm and the shock won't be so severe. It really works and pays in the long run. Good luck.
