I just started getting this code after got my gears installed at the dealership. The code is P0500 and it says "Vss circuit (M/T) -B". What do I need to do to correct this? Thanks, Kaley
It means that for at least 1 minute 40 seconds, while the car was being driven, the PCM was receiving no signal from the VSS. Your speedometer would be reading 0 mph while you are driving .... the PCM knows this because the RPM is above 1000, the throttle is depressed, and engine intake pressure indicates the engine is driving the car, yet the VSS is showing no signal (and doesn't for at least 1 minute 40 seconds ... which eliminates momentary drops in the signal).
The VSS, for manual transmission cars, reads a toothed wheel on the transmission output shaft to determine vehicle speed.
Is your speedo reading correctly? If not, have the installer check that they reconnected the VSS, as on manual transmission cars it is required for the speedo (and other PCM functions).
