I have a 2001 with ATI kit installed, I had a misfire code and took the car to the dealer. The dealer said that 3 of the spark plugs are crackedat the porceline. What is causing them to crack. I had replaced the plugs about 2k miles ago with the ATI install. :(
Either they were cracked before or during installation.
I can't imagine the tension of a spark plug wire cracking one. I also assume that the exhaust or brackets are not on contact.
Maybe a co-member could comment on excessive engine heat cracking a plug...yet I have never seen this happen ...even with mis-running two-stroke motorbikes...plus I would think your dash guages would have warned of tempreture errors..
the stock sparkplugs. I am having NGK TR6 plugs installed. I will check them soon too see what is happening. I will post any results I come up with. :skep:
Do this: Install new plugs. Make a WOT run and then cut the engine. Pull the plugs and look for signs of heating. The electrode will be rounded and melted. Look at the white insulator tower and check for what looks like someone "shook pepper" on it. This are actually flakes of aluminum melting off the tops of your pistons and then being deposited on your plugs.
Get it to a tuner. Until then: Buy better gas and limit the length of your WOT passes under boost.

Didn't the ATI install instructions tell you to use a colder plug (TR6)? The stock plugs run too hot for this application. I would not drive it until the change was made. :nonod:
$2 each and 30 minutes under the hood. Or replace the engine in the near future. I hope there has not been damage already.
Sounds to me like your fuel pressure isn't being increased when you go into boost. You should have something like a Fuel Management Unit that isn't working. In short, as was said before, you're running way lean. Also, I bet the broken insulator they're talking about is not the outside of the plug but on the inside  The scary thing is what did those little pieces of insulator do to the inside of the cylinders?
