I have a 1998 with stainless headers,I sometimes have a problem with the engine temp. getting high, not real bad somtimes when I am stuck in traffic at idle on warm days or when it has to sit at idle for some reason or other.I also have the front spoiler on,it is my understanding that this also blocks some air flow. While it is not a big problem I would like it to run cooler, any ideas
Re: headers -engine compartment heating problem (redrager)
First of all you will need to confirm that both fans are working on your car. The first fan comes on and cools ok, then when the car gets hot (or when you turn on your AC to HIGH) both fans come on. If the second fan does not come on at all, your car will get hot no matter what exhaust manifolds you are using.
what spoiler do you have? and do you still have the factory spoiler that redirects air up to your radiator?
You will need to check to make sure that you dont have a bunch of trash "plastic bags, leaves or even a flattened 7/11 super gulp cup" (I swear to god that happened to me) stuck in front of your radiator, You can remove the top shroud and that will give you access to the radiator to clean it up... or if you get the car up in the air you can reach up and clean it by hand.
Lastly, what temps are you seeing??
Let us know if those things work or what you find out ok?
Re: headers -engine compartment heating problem (vetterdstr)
It would be a hassle now but should have had them ceramic coated ( I did on my stainless ones). It is normal for our LS1 temps to go up in traffic or long idles. I put in a fan controller and 178 thermostat to contol this on my 00 Coupe. You could get some insulated wrap from an aftermarket supplier and wrap those puppies.
