Default oil consumption/bad PCV system

before you guys knock on me for posting this, I have been reading every post on this forum about the oil problems with the LS1 engine.

Here is my question to you oil consumption masters...

My ls1 engine burns oil. There is oil in the intake manifold.

If the oil is in the manifold, the oil loss is due to the bad PCV system, right? Or is it due to the GM oil rings?

answers: A- due to bad PCV system
B- due to bad GM oil rings

Loose engines (rings) mean blowby, blowby means crankcase vapors, PVC prevents pressure buildup in crankcase (good thing). I wouldn't say the rings are bad just that the tolerances are a little wide but tight engines have more friction and "can" be prone to more problems.

He's right. It's not that big of a problem. Sometimes a little bit of room means less friction more horsepower. Also the oil in your intake manifold could be caused from a bad engine valley cover. Its an easy fix so try replacing the valley cover and see if it helps your problem. I dont know what year your car is but there is a TSB out on that exact problem. GM know about it and with the right help you can get it fixed for free.

interesting. How can I get GM to fix my oil problem, i'm 2000 with 33k miles :( I'd def try the valley cover when i do h/c down the road. but now, its too much of a pain, for something than may not work)

Thanks for the good suggestions. looking forward to more good stuff from you.

Start by going and asking the dealer. Then if they blow you off call or email chevrolet action center. They will take care of it. There is a whole division called Chevrolet Corvette Customer Assistance. They will definetely help.

My oil problem was solved by replacing rings on all pistons - after it was found that 5 out 8 did not have both compression rings. this caused premature wear and blowby started on my number one piston.

Hope you have better luck! :cuss
