A few months ago I had a rear differential leak so I took her in to have it fixed. Once I got her back I noticed a vibration that wasn’t there previously. I took her back to the same dealer 3 times to address the vibration but they wouldn’t even admit that they felt it. Finally after getting:mad frustrated and disappointed at the dealer I took her to a different dealer. I took one of the techs for a drive and he felt the vibration I was so happy finally I got someone to notice what I was talking about. Well my car spent the day in the shop they called me and told me that they couldn’t pinpoint what is causing the vibration. After all I had been through I felt there was nothing more I could do at the time so I just put up with it. Recently the vibration has seemed to be getting worse but I don’t have any new information to give the dealer in hopes of finding a solution. The vibration is coming from the rear while I’m sitting at a red light (but not all of the time) or when I put her into reverse (but not all of the time). Just a week or so ago the vibration was so Bad when I put her in reverse that the entire car shuttered. :nonod: This made me decide that I NEED to try once again to address this problem but I’m thinking the same thing will happened as it did in the past since I have nothing new to tell the dealer. I’m so frustrated and worried with this issue I just don’t know what to do.
Does anyone have ANY suggestions as to what may be causing this? Does anyone else have this problem?
Hey!!!
Thanks for your reply :D so did the dealer get it lined up for you? With all the work that goes into the rear end it will probably be difficult to convience them that it may need torn out and looked at more closely again.
if... IF they removed the torque tube from the engine during the initial repair - there is a chance the driveshafts roataional mass is not centered properely on the engines crankshaft output.
A step many skip (and it's so important) is to install the TT to the engine and only lightly tighten the hex screw that clamps the driveshaft to the crankshaft.
Then start the engine and let the driveshaft center itself straight. Lastly; stop the engine and final tighten the driveshaft clamp hex bolt.
It's a shot in the dark (as the TT really doesn't need to be unbolted from the engine during differential seal replacement).
check for a bad inner cv joint.inner cv joint's tend to put vibrations in the car @ idle and low speed vibrations[feels like a tire].if the problem happened aftr replacing a axle seal,i would look at the inner cv joint on that side.just my02

Re: rear end vibration PLEASE help (Mike Mercury)
The vibration is coming from the rear while IÂ’m sitting at a red light
I doubt it has anything to do with the half shafts.
:iagree: Another thought comes to mind for me though, and that's the rear transaxle/cradle mounting points. If anything's loose there it seems to me it might allow a little rocking around while stationary. Worth looking into also.
I want to thank everyone for their reply. I must say though I'm not an expert and I'm quite confused:( . I can see where things wouldn't be lined up.
Could the exhaust be vibrating off the rear differental then when the car is lifted (depending upon how they lift it) the exhaust moves just enough which would make the dealer think it isn't the exhaust. This is one thing I have thought I may be completely wrong though.
If it wasn't lined up right wouldn't it vibrate each time I'm sitting at a light?
I might be wrong but I'm not sure it has to do witht the RPMs. Sometimes if she is vibrating while sitting at a red light and I let her coast forward just a little it will stop.
I just replaced my battery and I noticed that she seems to vibrate when the DIC shows that the battery volts were low.
I'm willing to try anything so I WILL watch the RPMs closely when I feel the vibration.
Mike Mercury, Thank you so much for all the advice.
damn... can you make it any tougher ?????
So; how certain are you that it comes from the rear of the car?
:D Sorry Mike hahahaha :( I'm trying:sad:
I was watching those RPMs on my way home last night and one my way into work this morning YOU WERE RIGHT!!! When she is vibrating the RPMs jump a round 600 before I come to a complete stop then they are at 550. When she isn't vibrating the RMPs are at 600 and don't seem to jump around as I'm slowing to a complete stop.
if you're sure it is coming from the rear; then when stopped there are only two things spinning back there; the driveshaft and the torque converter (well... part of it is still spinning).
Dealer just called me today they are trying to blame the vibration on the fact that my car is lowered and the pinion angle is different from it being lowered. :cuss :mad
pinion angle? Do they mean the half shafts ot the drive shaft?
Lowering can't cause a problem with the drive shaft since it's enclosed in a rigid tube (torque tube) and the tube is bolted directly to the engine and the transmission.
Can't be the half shafts because you said the vibration is felt even when not moving... so lowering would have no effect on a vibration felt on a stationary car.

Re: rear end vibration PLEASE help (EbonyFantasy)
:skep: Has it dawned on these people yet that you are driving a C5 which has, as Mike Mercury stated, a torque tube and CV joints on the axles? :skep: Maybe it's time to tell these dipsticks to "Step away from the vehicle sir, I'm leaving the premises permanently". :yesnod:
