doing a bunch of work to the Vette and one of them is brakes the rotors on my car now are washboarding you can see and feel groves in them. There is plent of pad left(Hawk pad) and they don't screech but i would like to identify the problem before i put on the slightly more expensive powerslots. Any ideas
pretty deep the top off rotor where pad doesn't touch is like a ridge. how can be normal wear i thought rotors were supposed to stay some what smooth
Rotors should wear smooth. Either have been getting the pads very hot and they have been going over temperature or they are just pads with a bad material composition. I have never been a big fan of Hawk pads. I had a set tear up my rotors and never could get an answer from Hawk on what was going on.
Here is a set of rotors that had been through a season and half of roadcourse track days and nights and are still quite smooth. Click on the image to enlarge:
Also IMO unless you are doing it for cosmetics I never have seen powerslot rotors do much for braking but they do go through pads faster.
Which pads were you using with the rotor shown in the picture? Looking at the picture, I'd agree that you seem to have less wear (gouging) than my rotors have with the Hawk pads, but you do have some nice cracks in them !!
:D
I also agree with you about the Powerslot rotors not making much difference, except for DEFINATELY eating pads faster.

Have fun out there,

Steve,
Those rotors had been through countless track days. My rule of thumb is if the cracks don't go all the way to the edge don't change them. The only reason I changed them when I did was because I got those $19.00 Raybestos rotors from http://www.rockauto.com which have been even better than the stock ones. I use EBC Red pads and I run them both on the street and track. I also have DRM cooling ducts which keep the pads and rotors a lot cooler on the track.
