Yank C-5 3000
Is this a good converter? Will it give me a off the line boost, as well as from a 25-30mph roll? I am looking for similar performance to a sy3500(tire roasting) but not as loose. I want it to have as much performance as I can while retaining the stock feel. I have 3.42's.
The Y3000 will not be as good from a roll as the SY3500. The ST3500 or the SS3600 will be less loose than the SY3500 because of their high STRs and give you even more tire roasting performance than the SY3500. They will also be better out of the hole (with DRs) than the SY3500 or the Y3000. They will also give excellent performance from a roll. If you don't mind a tad more looseness than what you would get with the SS3600 the SS3800 would also be a great choice.
yes, yank doe make an ss3200 i have it in my car. 13.33(stock tc & 2.73)-12.50(ss3200 tc & 3.42 w/ ls1 edit tune). but i wish i would have listened to everybody and bought a bigger 3600 or 3800.

You ran a 1/4 ET of 12.50 w/SS3200 TC, 3.42 rear diff, and LS1 Edit  Last Wednesday my 2001 C5 Coupe, A4(3.42 rear) ran a 1/4 ET of 12.6 @ 113.87mph with a factory TC & street tires (Kuhmo Ecsta MX).
I can recommend SS3600. Moved up to this one from Yank 3200. This one is more fun, not any worse for around town.
What do you mean by not any worse for around town? Is the past & present set up loose around town in daily driving situations? I don't want high revs when slowly taking off at a traffic light.
taking off from a light normally on level ground it may rev to 2000 or so max. It will creep forward by itself with no throttle. When driving up hills in residential areas (non-lockup speeds) the stall is more noticable - gets up around 2500. From what people have written I think it is tighter than the SY3500. I have a pretty quiet exhaust setup (Z06) but have headers and cam, etc - it is still a good daily driver. Now when I had the PRTs on there is could get annoying... In several years reading these boards and watching these topics I never saw anyone who regretted getting Y3000 except the people who later said 'should have gone bigger' - and the SS3600 is about the same driveability (just slightly looser) but performs much better - really rocks on the highway roll too - my rpms stay up around 4900 on the 2/3 shift right in the powerband.
and...I should add that unless you have much better street tire setup than I do 30 mph roll is an adventure. Downshifts to first = crazy sideways every time. I'm sure the power mods have something to do with it but a lot is the verter. What works for me much better is low second gear rolls where before I would be in dead zone at the bottom of second - now I'm still up in the powerband.
