I have had a rough Idle for a while and read that you can test the coil packs with an inductive timing light. I did this today and this is what I found. The 2 packs that are on the front/driver side bank seem to "misfire" every once in a while. The spark of the timing light would not come on once here and there and there was no particular rhythm to it either, it just did it randomly.
I guess this would correspond to the "miss" I would feel in my brake pedal and hear in the exhaust note once in a while and my rough idle.
I guess my next test will be to move these packs to another cylinder and see if it also does it, or if I can find a friend who's willing to lend me some packs that would be even better. or is this not necessary?
I also was using my friend's timing light and I melted the inductive pickup part on the exhaust manifold trying to get to the rear cylinder! Ooops!
Anyway, is this the correct diagnosis? Where can I find the coil packs the cheapest? Is it "safe" to buy used coil packs?
