On the way to work this morning dic on my 98 coupe said coolant was reading hot around 255. I made it to work checked hoses, fans, and coolant all working. car runs fine no unusual noises. Just now stared it up again temp went up to 250be fore i shut it down. just would like an idea of what it might be before I take it to the dealer , out of warranty
do you have heat?when the car is hot,is the lower radiator cold?if so,the thermostat is bad.also make sure you have no leaves, bags, etc, stuck up in the radiator air intake.
2. Make sure that no debree (sp) got picked up by the car and is blocking the air from flowing through the radiator. Platic bags are notorious for that.
3. If you have checked the other two, go ahead and change the thermostat, it is inexpensive, especially compared to a dealership service charge
None of this works, you can take it to the shop and let them find the problem.
