I have a 2000 , C5, with 12500 miles on it going in for a re-ring. It for the oil consumption, But will it ger rid of the little piston slap I have.
what else can they do? I was looking for the thread for new pistons to rid piston slap.
has anyone had it done that Paramus Hummer/ Chevy, and would they cam it and do bolts ons if I paid them ?

Had the rings in my '00 replaced, but not in NJ. If the service department is good, you shouldn't have any more problems with the consumption. Mine was done two years ago and all is well. Good luck. Some dealers may install the mods, but you might want to have it done at a good tuner.

Expect the worst and pray for the best. You won't be disappointed. Seriously, I've not heard of anyone being unhappy after the re-ring. Good luck.

Well this is too late to get to your before you bring it in but for what
it's worth, talk to the tech doing the work and really, really complain
about piston slap. He and the service manager can convince the GM rep
that the new pistons are needed to fix the problem.
On my re-ring, they changed to the new coated pistons and most of
the irritating engine noses disappeared. I had a disturbing rattling type
noise between 1200-2000 rpm and very bad at 1500rpm. That is now gone
and my neighbor even noticed it (a C4 owner) without me telling him
what happened.
Not only that, it saved the tech from having to clean up the old pistons
of all the carbon buildup. He did say the cylinder walls were in great
shape and had no scratches on them.
Again, I believe it's the relationship the dealer/service manager/tech
has with the local rep that is key to getting work done.
As far as other optional equipment, that may be dicey. If they are to
warranty their work, they may want to stay away from other-than-stock
parts. But ask, can't hurt.
By the way, my car runs very strong now and if my imagination isn't
playing tricks on me, it sounds noticeably different (better).
Good Luck...George

I thought the '01 Vette had the problems with rings?!?! I just bought a '00 and don't have any warranty!! The car only has 5600 miles on it and CARFAX didn't show any engine work done to it by Chevy from the previous owner. Is this something I should be leary of?? Does it need to be done to all or is it an intermittent problem?

Had my rings replaced two weeks ago. HUGE difference!
They found 5 pistons missing the top compression ring when they took the pistons out.
You might want to check when they pull yours to see if you had the same type of problem! :smash: :smash:

piston missing rings. Now that's bad!
il like new pistons to stop the piston slap to, but it's not bad, but I dont expect it to get better.
what's the TSB on the piston number
GM :U

One of our local guys had a re-ring and they screwed up so badly it wasnt even funny. One code after another, wiring harness laying on the exhaust pipe on both sides of the engine... Fryed the harness and they had to splice each wire individually back together.. I hope they guys that are doing yours know exactly what it is that they are doing. :smash:

well I just dropped off my baby for her ring job. I have spoken to the service manager several times before. They are doing the rings, and said the his shop has done more than there share of ring jobs on C5s. I asked about doing my bolts on, and he said no problem. Kooks headers to GHL's $500.00 labor, LS6 manifold no labor cost because the LS1 is off anyway, Vararam air system and power duct 1 or 2 hours labor whatever it is. They were not crasy about doing a cam for sure. I told them id see how the car ran with the bolt ons then ill decide on a cam. So far im happy

Had my '01 done and got it back w/o any major problems. The rings alone probably won't solve the slap problem though. Best of luck and let us know how you make out.

well i dropped off the bolts ons this morning and spoke with the tech thats going to be doing the rings and the bolt ons. I was impressed on how much the tech knew. I felt good about leaving my car with him. A real professional. He informed me of a couple of things he could do, and things that the Gm computer wont let him do. (damn) im thinking about because labor wont cost me anything, if I should have him put on new LS6 heads, or just keep the LS1s on there. Heads about 1200 bucks and no labor. what to do. Just palning down the road for that cam package and making the most out of it. I dont need 450 RWHP, but I do have to beat a ZO6 and a new GTO
