how necessary is this, should i consider this a priority, im using the volant system, also what sort of horse power gains should i expect they seem to run for about 300 any suggestion on best bang for the buck thanks a lot
How necessary is the Mass Airflow sensor (MAF)? Well of course it is necessary for your car to run but I think you are asking if it is a worthwhile mod. If you had an 97-00 then I would say perhaps if you had done extensive mods like a H/C. But it is generally agreed that you can do no better than the later OEM MAF, which you have
I have a '98 and installed a friend's Granatelli a few months ago. No dyno to check, couldn't tell if there was much difference at all. I only have a Blackwing and Stingers for mods. Just purchased a Hypertech PPIII, which I know is not much for HP gains unless car is stock. I just put the stock MAF back on and may give the PPIII a shot to see if I can 3 HP extra. The stock MAF is staying. Was wondering if someone would be kind enough to explain what makes the 97-98's a few ponies less than the newer models?
I have a '98 A4 which I bought new. I took it to a dyno day after it was broken in and bone stock it put out 276 RWHP. The 6 speeds were in the range of 296 to 303. Every year Chevy improved the Vette with better tuning, cam specs (I think the '98s cam is fairly small) and over all design.
"John Juriga’s last words on the LS1 camshaft were, "We didn’t go more aggressive on the cam, so at this point, the engine has a lot of potential. First time out, we could meet our target with a camshaft that is conservative.""
