OK, I'm looking to pick up the kit from Ken. However, none of the dealers around here will install it, citing vague "liability concerns". Anyone know of a tuner/dealer close to Idaho that will? If not, has anyone done this themselves and can comment on howto, pitfalls, etc?
Also, does anyone know if the seat belts ar einterchangeable between driver/passenger?
This install is EZ to do yourself. Go to: http://www.97vette.com/
Click onto "How to Install A Airbag Cutoff Switch" by KenRobb. He gives ez to follow instructions and pictures. I followed his instructions and the AB cutoff switch install was a breeze. Good luck.
:yesnod:
I had mine done by an ex GM mechanic at a local tuning shop. Nobody wants the liability! The shop requested I get a form filled out by the NHTSA (or some other gov't agency) before they would touch the car. Good luck!
There is also a seat belt kit to go along with the air bag disable, I think its free from GM , but not the labor. have them check the service bulletins.

The kit from Fitchners includes the seat belt. but honestly, WTF do I need a different seat belt?? After all, the word I have is that properly belted, you should not come into contact with an airbag as it deploys. That's why it is a [/]supplemental[/i] restraint. What, is the new belt supposeldy better? If so, why is it not already there? Argh.

It is not free from GM. :(
The replacement belt is different from the one in your car. Notice that the stock belts have a folded over area near the attaching point - this works in conjunction with the airbag, and gives way in an accident to slow your forward progress while letting the airbag "catch" you. The replacement belt is a solid piece, and will not give or tear, since there is no air bag in front of you when it's shut off.
Replacing the belt is really simple. Pull off your trim at the kick panel and on the side and you will see there are only three star head bolts holding the belt in. Remove them and replace the belt. Takes a little skill to thread it through the plastic trim, but the whole process doesn't take more than 20 minutes.
