Default While waiting for my LGM Headers to arrive....

I have a couple questions. Do I need to get Cool Sox?? Should I get new plug wires? If so which type is best suited? And if I am getting new wires should I also change the plugs now?? From what I read here it seems that the NGK TR55's are a popular choice. I also am gonna have to get the heat mat as we are planning to move to AZ next year, but man they are spendy!! I have just over 6500 miles on the car. Thanx for any input

Yes, def get coolsox so you wont melt any wires. Yes, do the plugs while your in there. (TR55s)Youll get better performance then the delcos and you dont have to worry about platinum pucks falling off!

At only 6500 miles the stock plugs should be fine unless you really want to swith to the NGK.
I went with a Taylor wire set and put Kool Socks on as well. This may be overkill, but I dont' want a burnt wire.
I dont have an opinion on the heat mat. I dont' notice any excessive interior heat so I'm not going to drop a bunch of money on that.

With the LGM headers you don't need KoolSox, you'll have plenty of room.
You must get new plug wires, the boot above the heat shield will touch the header. TR55 are a good plug, you'll likely pull the plugs to install the hearders anyway. Skip the heat mat.. does not do anything for under the hood heat. Get them JetHot coated. It looks good and is less expensive than the heat mat. :chevy

I've had the Pro LG LT Header Off Road System since August.

1. No cool sox and my spark plug wires are doing fine.
2. LGM replaced my Delco plugs with the NGKs right before the Headers were installed. They ask me & I said go ahead. Don't remember the odometer reading at the time but was less than 15K.
3. LGM installed the Heatmaster tunnel heat shield, too, before the Headers were installed. Not to reduce the engine bay heat but to reduce cabin floor heat. I've noticed my center console is cooler now than before the heat shield was installed. :yesnod:

I live in AZ, but I don't have the LGM headers, I have stainless steel works headers. I still use the stock plugs and stock wires, and I just turned 45k on my car. Still the same ones from the factory. Unless you are heavily modded, no need to waste money on plugs and wires. The stock ones will hold you over for a long time. My car is still running strong with the factory stuff.

Yeah, I'm running the Taylor 8mm's and they work great. Check with LAPD or TByrne.
With the stock system I had heat problems in the tunnel area. Everything would get super hot. After the header install the problem was gone, that's with or without the cats.

Cool sox are also available at LG Motorsports. Unfortunately, we don't have the best web site, as far as being complete, but we usually have anything that you could want for your C5

Thanks

Plus is you got your headers and are waiting for shippment, we can save you the cost of shipping and put them in the box.

Thanks
Lou Gigliotti

Now back into the race shop to bury myself in 13 more days of work to finish the World Challenge Race Car for Sebring.

Scott,

It sounds like you and I are in the same boat as far as waiting for our LGM Long-Tube Pro headers to arrive.

Here is what I am adding when I install the headers:

- Taylor Thundervolt-50 wires - These are Taylor's best wires

- Thermo-Tec Space Age Protective Sleeves for the spark plug wires

- Thermo-Tec C5 Tunnel Shield

- Delco Iridium spark plugs

You can purchase the Thermo-Tec parts from www.speedzone24-7.com . They are directly linked to Thermo-Tec and have good prices.

I purchased my Taylor wires through Ramchargers www.ramchargers.com .

Good luck with your decision. :seeya

Lou: Looking forward to seeing the car on the track at Sebring. Will that be the GT broadcast at 1pm Eastern on Speed Channel?
