Had the car out yesterday for a brief drive. Upon returning home and detailing it prior to covering it up, I discovered oil spots on the rear fascia. Threw a piece of cardboard underneath and sure enough oil drops on the cardboard this morning. How often does this seal go bad? It has been less than 3,000 miles since it was replaced (21 months ago). My question is; is there a better aftermarket seal than the one that GM offers? Also, does anyone know of anybody in the Los Angeles area that could replace this for me other than a dealership? Car is still under warranty but I would rather bite the bullet and have it repaired correctly once and for all.

Re: Differential Leak (VinnyG)
It may not be the seal...however the more common source of leakage. WHo ever services your car should clean the diff and reinspect it after a quick run. There are other sources of leaks that look like a seal.. good luck :smash:
Same here Vinny...when I had the car on the lift for the caliper brackets I saw black greasey crap all over the differential and supsension frame. This is the second time in 15K. I'm wondering just what the hell the dealer did when they fixed it the first time. Yuck, another trip to the dealer and now I have to hope the extended warranity will cover this.
Good luck with yours Vin

This has been going on for a long time you would think GM would have a fix. A lot of use out of warranty are having to foot the bill and still are having the problem. Mine is a 2000 and the 2003 are having more problems.
There is an updated seal for the diff leak and if the tech uses sealant when installing the seal the leak is almost quaranteed to not return. There was an update on the TSB on this posted here not too long ago. It mentions the addition of the sealant as well.
My car was done using the new parts and proceedures. So far...so good. The dealer was very anxious to fix it now that they have a permanent fix. Previously, fixes were only lasting 10K. A friend of mine has had it done twice. Once before the new parts and one after. So far, he is doing Okay too.
