Thermostat change for 2004
GM has changed the thermostat design for 2004 so the usual thermo with housing replacement won't bolt up. It is now just a thermostat by itself that will drop into place. I'll post part numbers for the new 160 and 180 thermos when I receive them.

I haven't seen one up close yet but I don't think you'll be able to do this.

you must have read my mind, i was just going to post if any vendor sold the new style stat. i just had my(98 vette) water pump warranted with the new 04 style and my 172 stat wouldn't fit so now my fans pretty much run constantly. let me know when you recieve some-thanks

Tom: Are these units with different springs or is the thermostatic element calibrated to the opening temp? Cut or weaker springs is not the same as the pellet calibration.

The new stat will probably be simular to the one used in the LT1 (just drops in with a rubber gasket around it).
