I am installing my new Kooks headers and have a question on how to install the header bolts. I have seen on this forum where people use anti-sieze on the bolts, but the service manual says to use thread locking compound. Which should I use? Thanks for your help!
Use the anti-sieze, header bolts are notorious for twisting off. If you use the threadlocker you will end up with a bunch of busted knuckles when trying to get them back off!!!!!!!!!!!! They are hard enough to get on/off as it is....
:iagree: With headers, you should re-torque them in a week or so, then check them every time you change the oil as they often loosen slightly. If you were to Loctite them, and the Loctite "held", you would have a hard time tightening them. On the otherhand, the Loctite might soften at the operating temperature of the exhaust side of the head. If this were the case, then there would be no benefit to use it.
Thanks for all your help guys, anti-seize it is. Cant wait to try all the new toys on the vette. Winter here in the Northeast is just too damn long!
