i was looking at a shock comparison from a magazine a while ago and both the z51 and z06 had the same thing listed for shocks:
Sachs 45mm gas-charged monotube
in fact the only diff was the rear spring and front sway bar. Am i wrong here?
there was an earlier post about the differences b/w the two; I recall the front sway is different on the Z, and I understand that the shocks ARE diffrent; in fact I read that the 04 shocks are the best yet on the Z, including better than Bilsteins that we all have tried, dogdoc
im aware of the spring/swaybar differences. I was wondering primarily about the shocks. Its my understanding that the valving is different but they are identical otherwise, just trying to verify. The 04 z06 shocks are also almost 400 vs. 300 or so for the bilstein sports.

'04 Z06 shocks are $330 delivered, from more than one Forum vendor. The Bilstein Sports are maybe a bit more when you factor in shipping charges. Regardless of the price, the Z shocks are better IMHO - I've had both on the same car.
As with Z51, Sachs shocks are used. Shock valving for Z06 changed in three areas compared to Z51. Damping of low velocity suspension movement typical of body roll was increased at all four corners. At the rear only, high velocity damping was changed, with compression damping actually decreasing (because of the higher spring rate) and rebound damping increasing, to improve wheel control.
