I'm wondering if there is an easy way to disable the switch so the car can be started without pressing the clutch pedal. On my previous car, there is this one connector that can be disconnected and the car would start w/o pressing the clutch pedal. I don't want to start cutting wires and/or putting jumper wire. Anyone ?
Look under the dash and there is a switch that the clutch hits when you depress it all the way down. Disconnect that switch and then make a jumper wire with male terminals on the end and install it in the plug. Then you wont have to press the clutch in anymore to start the car.
I hate having to press the clutch in to start the car. Especially if I'm in a hurry. I sometimes forget about it. Just make sure you leave the car in neutral when you do this. Otherwise, you could have a mess on your hands.
If you ever have your car worked on by other people, place a huge blinking neon red sign on the steering wheel advising them of the clutch bypass. Also, check with your ins company (make an anonamous call from someone else's phone) about coverage problems. Some ins companies will deny paying claims because of DRLs being disconnected!
I still don't get what's the big deal with having to press the clutch in when starting the car. I've been driving sticks for 20 years and that's how I've always started them.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll wait for more responses. I'll post another one in autocross/roadracing section in several days.
Uhh, Ok. But it only takes 5 minutes to do and as far as I know, its the only way to bypass the clutch. There is no cutting of factory wires and can easily be returned to stock by just removing the jumper wire and plugging the connector back in.

I hate having to always push the clutch in to start. Thats reason enough for me. But other reasons would be that if I was working on the car, since I do all my own work, and a little dirty and didnt feel like climbing all the way inside, I can just reach in and hit the key. Or if someone wants to hear the engine or whatever, again all I have to do is just reach inside and turn the key. Im 6'2" and I dont want to have to get all the way inside just to push the clutch in, start the car, and then get back out. Thats a pain. And no one else drives my vette so someone else accidentally starting it in gear isnt going to happen. Ive always disconnected the clutch on every vehicle Ive had.
Turning the motor with the clutch disengaged, makes sure there is no forward launch if the car is in gear, also if in gear and clutch is engaged, will burn out the starter.. it is not designed for that load....

Do that once with the car in gear and ahve the motor catch, you will have more fun than you can believe. Watch the car drive itself away. There is a r4eason for the saftery equipment on the cars, it is wrong to bypass it for no real reason.

Really?? I had no idea. LOL. Thats why you nor anyone else will be driving it. Get real. I was born at night but I wasnt born last night.
OMG people! If HE wants to bypass the clutch switch on HIS vehicle, it's HIS business. :chill:
Precisely.
It seems like an easier solution would be to just get an automatic. Who puts a manual in neutral anyway?
No offense dude, but that statement makes no logical sense.
Bottom line is to each their own. Should everyone concede to your exact choices and lifestyle? Dont think so. Besides, the guy that posted this thread was asking directions how, not why or opinions thereof. Welcome to America where people have the right to do as they wish with their life and property, within reason anyway.
Also, if you remove this switch you will not pass safety inspection for drag racing. It is very dangerous to remove this switch on a MN6.
It's considered a neutral safety switch.
