Has anyone ever had to change the crankshaft balancer on their C5? The dealer told me mine is bent. A belt was squealing so I asked them to change the belt. Instead they want $1500.00 to cahnge a cranshaft balancer. They said they have to remove the oil cooler and steering rack. My car is not vibrating at all. I thought it would be vibrating at least a little bit if the balancer was bent. Any suggestions? $1500 seems steep for something like this! Thanks....
You might want to try another dealer. I had mine replaced by a local dealer in August, 2002. The total bill was $880. This included 34 hours labor, the balancer, bolt, oil seal, and belts. FWIW, I had a fairly serious vibration as well as an oil leak at the front crankshaft seal. Good luck getting it sorted out.
I am trying to get as much info about it as possible. I tookmy car to the dealer to change the squeaky belt. They found out it was the crankshaft pulley. I was going to have them fix it but they had to get an adjuster from my warranty company to look at it first. My car has a nitruos system installed on it but the dealer wouldn't let me take the kit off the car before the adjuster came. As soon as the adjuster saw the nitrous he cancelled my coverage. I am hoping I can remove the nitrous and then buy another extended warranty through another company. Maybe the new company will cover it.
The car has 46,000 miles on it. It was like that when I bought the car. I'm not sure how it got like that though. Was it a pain to remove? Replace? Did you go with an underdrive pulley system? Do you know any performance shop in Maryland that can do this?
About two years ago my belt was making noise and the problem was the harmonic balancer.if you watch it while the car is idling you can see it wobbling, when I brought it to the dealer to have it replaced they charged me about $400.00
$1500.00? he sounds like a crook! go someplace else, good luck.
mine wobbles too but i think its normal? I get a cricket chriping when its wet outside or cold. I have read on here that it may be the ac pulley and can be solved by tightening it?
