Default How to know when to replace the brake pads

Do the C5s come with the brake warning sensor on the pads that give a "squeeling" sound when the pads are low?

Stock ones do but if there was a brake job done before they may not.

Just take a light and you can see the pad material and backing plate. Pull the wheel if you have to. You can run them down to 1/8" if you have too.

Just like John said, just take a look at them. It's pretty easy to do, depending on your wheel spoke pattern.

I have helped install quite a few different pad brands and haven't seen one type of pads without the "screech" clips. They should give you plenty of warning.
Because the clips are on the trailing edge of the pad you usually get the first sounds while backing up.

A rule of thumb that I use on my vehicles is to replace the pads when the pad material gets to be thinner than the backing plate.

The outside pads are usually about twice the thickness of the inside pads, right?

No, they'll be the same thickness.
