Same installer do both sets? If so, may be time for a change. :(
I'm coming up on about 1200 miles on my set and (knock on wood,) so far so good. This includes the 7 hard passes at Hallsville last week.
Gear trouble sucks. I feel your pain. Good luck...
3.90 gears installed at reputable Corvette shop. Shop did not put the gear set together but said he got them from a reputable source. Carefully driven for first 500 mi, then had the fluid changed (SHOP'S RECOMMENDATION). Then after a total of 2000 miles, the whining began. At first it was faint and only under power. Then it became very noticable at highway cruise (6th gear 1850RPM about 75 mph). Now it has 2400 miles and is noticable all the time. The shop manager and the head tech both went for a ride and agreed to get another differential to install.
It didn't happen from the start and I tried to breaK it in reasonably.

Sounds a lot like mine. I am at 750 miles and really only notice it at the same rpm and gear that you described.
So it only gets worse, that is what I was afraid of.
sounds like backlash not set right,,could be wrong
:iagree: I've got about 2,000 miles on my 4.10's. Rodney Massengale with Transmission Specialists in New Castle, Indiana installed my 4.10's (and a buddy's too) back in November. Both sets are as quiet as the factory 3.42's.
I also had rodney do 3:73's for me and not any problems after about 4000 miles last summer. I would urge you to dump your current installer and call Rodney...his handle on the forum is "crashed94"...good luck!
OK I had some installed in my 96 Dana 44 (4.10), and if the gears are set correct, THEY WILL NEVER WHINE. Dont know if I broke them in right or not, I dident race it for about 400 miles or so. BUT THEY DONT WHINE. I beleive its your installer, not the gears.
