Default 160 deg thermostat need help!!

Hey guys I was just wondering if you would be able to answer some of my questions I need a 160 deg thermostat and do i need to buy it with the housing or can I just buy the thermostat? and after I put the thermostat in can i drive the car or does something need to be tuned or do i need a chip of some sort.
So is it a 1 piece or 2 piece thermostat ?
Do I need tuning?
And does anyone have a thermo for sale or know where I could get one cheap?
thanks alot

No one sells just the thermostat itself, the t-stat and housing are one. You should be able to run the 160 without reprogramming the fans but don't expect the temp to stay @ 160. It will rise to ~220 until the fans come on and cool to ~200. Not unless you're cruising on the highway with lots of airflow will it fall below 200.

There is a trick to take the stock t-stat apart and shim it to get it to open earlier. Do a google search on LS1 thermostat mod, should find it.

I had the Mid America 175 thermostat installed last week. Ive only cruised on the HWY with it and it stays between 165-175 degrees. I have on a couple of bolt ons .

My mechnic told me I shouldnt drop in under the 160 thermo because that's to cool for a stock car.

your mechanic needs to go back to school.. a thermostat determins how cold the car will get not how hot it gets..if your seeing 165 temps with a 175 stat you should throw it away because it aint workin ...a 160 thermostat in a C5 without reprograming the fans will get you up to 220/230 on a real hot day.. just like the stock one will... a 160 stat only let you get a jump on the poor cooling found in a C5 even with a 160 sstat and reprogramed fans... on a 95 degree day in stop and go traffic your still going to see 200 F. Ive run a 160 stat in my C5 for 5 years with no problems, and it's much better on the car.
