Vette Gurus, question regarding poor performing 99 A4
I have noticed that my performance off the line (street start from 0) is not what I think it should be. In cold weather, 40 ish, the tires wont even chirp on cold pavement. It seems to bog and then explode at about 3k. My question is, when I first purchased the car it had the notorious drive line rumble. I took it to the dealer and they said it was the old style alternator. Rather than replace this, they "reprogrammed the computer" which I later found out was not being done anymore. Could this "reprogram" be the cause? If so, would a predator solve this? Any oother suggestions? The car is stock except for a blackwing and corsa Indy.
Re: Vette Gurus, question regarding poor performing 99 A4 (BIG99)
what gears do you have if you have the 2.73 you might be fine the car's power is deceivingly smooth. if you want to do a burn out try this:turn off TC and just hold the brake for a sec while you slam the throttle you should be able to rip em then since you are allowing the revs to get up a bit into the powerband
Re: Vette Gurus, question regarding poor performing 99 A4 (LittleBoyBlu99)
I have the performance axle, 3:10's I think. I don't really want to do burn outs but I feel the car should make enough power to spin the tires at least a little on launch.
Re: Vette Gurus, question regarding poor performing 99 A4 (BIG99)
My 98 A4 had always been slow on the launch with 2.73's. After a couple of years I realized that I was more inclined to want a quick launch as opposed to super high speed and incredible gas mileage,. I switched to 3.42's and a aftermarket torque converter and the difference was exactly what I wanted. I'm now in the power band at a much lower speed and enjoy spinning the tires at will. :steering:
Re: Vette Gurus, question regarding poor performing 99 A4 (tahoeC5)
My car had similar isues and the car just felt sluggish I went to the track and was only trappin like 109 with 13.0 passes after the week before i was trappin 112 with mid 12 passes. A friend told me to change plugs ( tr 55's )and fuel filter... Went back went 112 again with a 12.50 and car feels great. With the two mods that you have done I dont know if programming would be the right way you might be hiding a prob... My car had 36k miles so maybe your at that mileage and need some regular old maint...
Good luck.
