Looking at gett'n in on the Kook's GP. I've heard alot of people raising the motor to install them. Does it need to be done for just the 1 7/8 size or both.
BTW. Probably stupid question but the Kooks are stainless right.
Patches, I read where someone fully turned the wheel, not sure which way, and were able to avoid taking off the steering shaft. Know anything about that? What all is involved with taking the shaft off? Also, which end do you have to install from? I will be using a lift, so there will be plenty of room to work from underneath. Nice pics of the install, wish you lived a bit closer, I could probably use a "seasoned" hand on this project! Thanks.
The steering shaft comes off real easy as there is only 1 bolt that can be removed by a socket on a long drive extension. Then the joint just slips apart. For putting it back, I recommend wire brushing away the old Loctite and using a dab of red, high strength Loctite. It's best to remove the coolant temperature sensor at the exhaust face at the front of the driver's head, as some have broken their's off getting the header in place. You can use a small piece of rag with 1/4" bolt to seal off the hole, or with the left side jacked up, very little coolant will spill out. I nearly had a coronary when I started to let the jack down and I got a flow of brownish red slippery fluid. I thought I cracked the bat-winged oil pan. But it was only coolant.
:iagree: The steering shaft has one bolt on each end. But first, to make sure the steering sensor doesn't get misalligned, get a bungee cord or rope and tie off the steering wheel so it doesn't accidently get turned. If you turn the steering wheel a turn either way and hook up the shaft, the sensor gets out of synch so you need to keep it from moving while your working on the car.
there are different levels of mechanical skills on the boards here, some guys find it a big job to change an oil filter here,if your not one of them you should have no problem puttin them in, as far as steering shaft, it has to be removed, turning the wheel does nothing,2 bolts& it slides out, same as jacking the engine & you dont need an air wrench, just dont be in a hurry to install them, the headers are S.S. except for the flange's,these headers made a big difference in my car,I should of putem on sooner.
