I am cosidering getting aftermarket rims for my C5. If I get wheels that are not made to handle the factory air sensors what are my options?? Do I have to reprogram the computer, will the car run correct??? Advise please!!!!!!!! Thanks............ :steering:
Re: Tire sensor and rims question........ (3318C5)
You can mount a sensor in ANY wheel.
Mine are epoxied and clamped inside the wheels. Has worked fine for 12k miles so far.
If you choose to not run the sensors, you will only get a "service tire mon system" warning at startup. You can press reset and continue on as normal. It does not affect the car's operation at all. If you have a 2000 or earlier, you will have to live with this warning message everytime you start the car if you don't have sensors.
If you have a 2001 or newer car, the TPM system can be "turned off" with a GM Tech-2 programmer. A dealer should have this tool, and you'd have to get them to do it.

does anyone know the part number of the sensor for a 98? Also wouldn't you get a message that the pressure is at zero and the car will be running in maximum speede limit of 55mph? My left front one is bad, takes to long to send the pressure and the car thinks its at zero and considers it a flat.
