I have a set of 20" HRE 540 polished rears. I've scraped the outer rim up quite a bit on both. Would like to remove the rim myself and send them back to HRE for replacement versus sending the entire wheel. Any thoughts or ideas if you've done this before, like the torque setting of the nuts and is there a sequence?
Thanks
KJ
I would highly reccomend that you send the whole wheel.
I had a problem with my HREs because a silicone seal had been punctured that makes the wheels airtight. Luckily I live in CA and drove the wheel over and had it repaired.
If you take apart the Wheel yourself you are at the mercy of whoever reseals your wheels.
Also while your wheel is there they can make sure it is still in the round and has not been damages on the inner barrel.
Call HRE and talk to them they will offer the best info on this and if you choose to take it apart yourself. They have great customer service.
Re: HRE three piece outer rim removal? (boblackhardtop)
Thanks gang. The shipping cost should be a shock, but the tear down and replacement cost is about $300 per wheel according to HRE.
Thanks again. Didn't think about the air tight seal!
I just had HRE fix 2 of my 540's, and they wouldn't send me any parts to do it myself. They said it was against their insurance regulations. It cost me 25.00 each wheel UPS with insurance. Then 360.00 to fix each outer rim. The wheels came back super nice. Very happy with HRE, classy company.
Too bad I live so far from CA. I just sent the two wheels form MI to CA for the minimal cost of $110.00. I almost choked, but they are the best looking wheel. Next time I'll avoid the curbs. LOL
Thanks for the replies.

I just sent an old set of CCWs back for a repolish/reseal. I checked UPS, FedEx, and USPS websites for pricing quotes.
FedEx was the cheapest by $20 from western New York to Florida, and when I got to the FedEX terminal, their charge was even less that the website rate. Bottom line, it cost $41 to ship 4 wheels, each one insured for $500. It pays to shop around, even for shipping!
Just take it apart and pry the sections apart with a couple of screwdrivers. After putting them back together, seal with silicone.
The torque totally depends on the wheels. If your wheels have the aircraft style bolts (like Kinesis), you have more of them, but only torque to around 15ft-lb. Kinesis has around 40 bolts at low torque, instead of the the big bolts like on CCW.
