Any members have suggestions on the inexpensive modifications to the engine that will actully increase HP? The vendors have lots of items for under $300. Which are the most effective? Are any a waste of money? :flag
I would go with a new intake. Several in and around $300 a few more popular ones a pinch more, but all of the reputable ones are worth the $'s and will deliver 10-14 H.P.
WARNING!! This is how it all starts. Lets see, first an intake, then exhaust, well maybe just a manifold too, well ok, that blower really isn't that much.
Underdrive pulleys really work for 9 or 10 rwhp--the blackwing or similar is good for 10 to 15rwhp--the UD pulley is a BIT to put on so most do it when they add a cam--a good cam is in the 400 range but labor brings way up--GHL's and some of the other catbacks are good for about 10rwhp but are in the 800 to 1200 range--if you can run without cats (replace with xpipe and o-2 sens) you will get 10 or so--my favorite mod will be at least a grand but going to 390 or 410 gears feels like you put 50 to 100 hp to the ground--as you see I can ramble on and on just as your money will do once you get started---I started with the boltons--then the H/C and header package--then brakes, suspension and 390 gears, then bigger wheels and tires, then the blower, shifter, now the 436 stroker with dual disk exedy, rodney tranny, poly bushing kit and 750lb rear spring, hood spoiler hell it never ends I am tuning in a 90mm TB and FAST 90mm intake manifold now with the 1 7/8" headers and full 3" exhaust--if you spend 50K for your car you can easily spend another 50K getting it right
NeptuneBill couldn't have said it better. When I bought my car, I told my wife all I wanted to do was put on a new cat back system. Then came the long tubes, hi flow cats and x pipe. Now I've just got my new UD pulley and intake then I'm bringing it to Vettedoctors for tuning, oh yeah my new wheels and tires should be on order soon. Researching the H/C for next winter.
Confessions of the addicted. Heed their warnings!!!
Let's see - A granatelli integrated intake system that replaces the stock radiator shroud. Then a head and cam package - and while your at it put in the TPIS headers and a heavy duty clutch. Let's see, a glass roof would be nice and maybe some vette essentials bling bling. Yep that'll do it. No wait - what about a 383 stroker with hardened internals plus a custom blower/intercooler. No wait, you can add a custom Nitrous package, fuel pump, re-site the battery, add a seperate high octane fuel cell and pump to mix wit the nitrous, a 5 point harness and a roll cage, a CCW big street package and a CCW drag package and a line lock. There that'll do it. No wait, If I can move to a heavy duty automatic transmission set up and go with the 75 injectors and conversion box I can launch this thing without hitting the rev limiter or having to shift into 5th gear in the 1/4 mile and install an electric water pump so that if I break a belt I can still drive. There that is it I can't wait to get the car back. Hmm. Boy the F1 setup looks cool combined with a C5R blower set up for next year. The year after that it will be time to go with the strait axel, wheel tubs and big block that some of the guys are now going to. Of course you need a chute.
You can't say that you have not been warned.  :yesnod: :)
Forgot the Borla catback system, 3:73 gears with hardened output shafts, ripper shifter, cags bypass, LS6 intake manifold, 80MM throttle body, magnecor race wires custom vacuum and pressure gages and hidden nos switches in the consule. No cure - get a great tuner like ECS to at least make your chronic condition enjoyable! :jester
