3:90 VS 4.10's

I just noticed your thread.
I have not read all the replies, so I may be redundant.
I have a high HP car w/3.90 and no you can not floor it in 1,2,or 3rd.
Where the benefit is, is-3,4,5, and especially 6th.
6th is worthless on a stock or even modded car, but with the 3.90/4.10 it becomes useful and still gives reasonable mileage. Remember all the times you had to downshift twice just to pass! No more.
Cruising canyons is much more pleasant in 3/4 than 2/3 and the top 4 gears-where you are 99% of the time-are just great.
And no, you can't floor it in 1/2.
But with a little practice you can do quiet well.
There's no law that says you can't tub it and install wide soft tires.
I chose a 3.90 for my coupe cause you end up with the same overall drive ratio in 1st gear as a ZO6!
I absolutely love how it drives in 3/4 and I'm still learning in 1/2, but it's fun!
A downside is that you can't let a normal person drive your Vette.
I have had superchared cars with 3.73, 3.90, and 4.56 and prefer the 3.90 for street driving.
That's my personal preference-I see guys that love 3.15 and lower and guys that will only do a 4.10 and want higher!
Best is to find a car w/3.90 or 4.10 and drive it-if they will let you-and then decide!
Good luck,
Roy
