Guys
I have LS1 out of 1997 corvette with 70k on it. I am planning to strip it down and do a good rebuilt job.
My question to you is what would you recomend to upgrade during this procedure?
Thx :chevy
You will deff want to upgrade valve springs etc so for 400 bucks you could go ahead and put a good cam in as well==for a little more money you can also have a good true roller timing gear set very important--you could replace the oil pump with a ported improved unit--if you have to replace the pistons get a forged set you will need them later and don't forget to put the aftermarket 7/16" rod bolts they are the weekest link in the bottom end, the crank is suppose to be good for 750hp--if you don't want to spend the money right now to have the heads ported you may want to take the time to do a little hand polishing--there is a lot you can do cheaply (relatively speaking) while the motor is down the rollmaster double roller timing set is about 150 bucks but the labor to put one in later is 2 or 3 times that, if the stock doen't break and cause damage that cost more--use the best bearing and studs they are a little more but will pay for themselves down the road--good luck
ARP Rod bolts
Forged pistons with valve relief and file to fit rings
Might as well do the LS6 PCV mod while you are in there
Gentlemans Cam 210-216 530-550 114-116
New oil pump (ported LS1 or LS6)
Comp stock replacement lifters
New lifter guides
Underdrive Pulley
Cometic Head Gaskets
ARP head studs or bolts
Stock LS6 heads assembled (hand polish and de-burr)
Center bolt valve-covers to match heads
Comp hardened pushrods
Stock rockers ok, I would replace with new, or get some beefier stock replacements Comp, Crane, Yella Terra, etc.
If going with headers instead of stock ex. manifold, then ARP header studs
Stock 01+ 28.8# injectors
NGK TR55 or Bosch Platinum +4 spark plugs
Taylor or MSD plug wires (with heat socks if you are using headers)
180deg thermostat
