Default Kooks-more dyno results 27rwhp 29rwtq gain!!!

Well here are the charts:

Needless to say, I'm very happy. Besides for the power the throttle response seems much better.

I saw a modded rustang GT on the way home that wanted to play. He had it going on with the hood pins and all. I figure those where worth at least 20hp for him. I about ran over him after I let him get a good start in front of me. I guess he will be thinking twice about messing with a vette the next time. :smash:

Here is the lowdown on my Z06:

01 Z06 with 50k miles, re-ring done back at 20k, I have 1 3/4 kooks w/ cats, an older halltech T1 CF intake, Borla stinger 2 tip catback, new MSG 8.5 wires, plugs are copper TR-55s with 20k miles on them. Fresh mobil 1 5w-30, UPF 44 filter and amsoil in the trany and diff.

Last dyno about a year ago was 357/353 w/ the catback and intake. I never did a baseline dyno.

The tuning was done by Allan Futral of Futral cams.

Forgot to ask. What happened with the fuel filter problem? Did you get it corrected?

Bob, Went up to the dealer and got a new fuel filter for $50, it had a list of $70  It was well worth it as the new one fixed the problem. So the other POS from advanced auto is going back monday. It only cost me an additional $100 in dyno time. :cuss

Do you think I'm on the lean side?

I had 384 untuned my first run yesterday, then the new fuel filter I put in from advanced auto parts was bad. So back today after a new filter from the dealer.

Guys, the Air fuel looks much more smooth when scaled. Bryans AF graph is not set to scale and looks MUCH more radical than it actually is. GM tunes the cars to a 13.8 AF from the factory and its perfectly safe until you add some compression. Bryan picked up almost 10lb ft of torque @ the wheels with some simple tuning on bolt ons...

Bryan,

The scale makes the air/fuel variation more noticable, but it is still moving more than most tunes that I have seen. More importantly I would NEVER run an A/F in these cars any leaner than a 12.8, certainly Tom Garland does not. It looks to me like you were experiencing some detonation on the dyno at 5K already. My preference is for a conservative tune, this is to close to edge for my taste.

CamminBeast,

Sorry to disagree, GM does not tune a stock Z06 to a 13.8, more like 12.2 - 12.4. And yes, I still think a ported T/B on a bolt-on Z06 is a waste of money, and I have not seen the kind of increases that you have seen.

Not flamming you, I know you have a lot of F-Body experience and I respect that. Most Z06's that have gone with a ported T/B get little or no gain, though tip-in throttle response is improved.

And, as you know, I am happy with my 383, and the power it makes, and with the tuning - and yes, I already have a ported T/B. The motor is doing EXACTLY what it was designed to do, but thanks for the offer.

Z06Les is correct. You have a decent amount of knock starting at 5,000 RPM and that is pulling timing & power. This car looks too lean to me around the TQ peak.

I will definitely let you guys know.It would be interesting to me and maybe some other members as using e.t.s instead of dyno to measure the mods we make. And in this case going from a rich condition(.975) to .900 or soand seeing the difference that makes.Oh btw the car is pretty consistant.
