External Temperature / AC Problem on 2000 C5 Coupe
Hi,
Has anyone experienced problems with the external temperature sensor on their corvette?
When my 2000 Corvette Coupe starts up it sometimes reads an external temperature of 10deg F outside when its really 80 deg out side.
As I drive the temperature usually rizes up to the acutal external tempertature but when I stop or idle it usually starts giving me bad readings again.
This really wouldn't bother me that much, but the covette has some sort of programming which does not allow the AC to turn on when the external temperature is below 32 degrees. So even though the internal temperature is 90's it is thinking all it needs to do is blow cold air in from the outside to cool it down. Of course the cold air it thinks its blowing in is actually hot air... Its a little anoying...
I was thinking before I take it in to have it serviced, I wanted to check if anyone was having a similar problem. Does anyone know where the external temperature sensor is located on the C5? I was thinking it probably is something like a dirty contact or something which is giving me the problem. A wiring schematic would help...
Re: External Temperature / AC Problem on 2000 C5 Coupe (bonbasket)
The sensor mounts on the passenger side of the front bumper. Look underneath the car forward of the passenger side edge of the radiator opening . If you reach down from the inside of the hood on the passenger side up towards the front you can see and feel the sensor. Very easy to replace! I believe it mounts with one of those push in splined connectors. The plug is right on the sensor also, no pigtail. Hope this helps...

I had a similar problem, my outside air sensor was open circuit and my AC control panel read the last known temp, which if it is below 35 degrees will not allow the AC compressor to engage . the sensor part # is 10248414 and is a simple plug and play and list price is $8.14 , you can check for codes on your DIC and it will read that you have a code in the HVAC, the sensor is located on passenger side of the radiator intake duct I removed the black plastic panel directly in front of the right front wheel. hope this helps
