Looks like I may need a water pump. Anyone have an ideal on pump costs and anything special about installing one (can a backyard mechanic do this?)
1998 6-spd.
Thanks for any help, or advice
Order a stock pump and gaskets from Ken Fichtner Chevrolet. It is like a $150 give or take a little.
The one major problem on the early C5's is the gaskets and if you have a leak that is what is likely leaking. The old gasket material is a major PIA to remove. Be prepared with a plastic scraper and some gasket removal gunk. The new gaskets are much better.
not sure how much the pumps are... somewhere in the 550 range I think. Call extreme tomorrow, they will hook you up. What other 'damage' did you do to the car??? Hope you didnt mess up that pretty hood.
The hoods is fine...alot of rubber flying around :D Also have a power steering fluid leak...can't tell where it's coming from...to low to get under tonight
Electric water pump is almost 600 dollars with shipping...
a stock water pump is around 160 dollars..it includes a new 190 stat and it's about a 45 minute to a hour job... its basically, remove the air bridge, serpintine belt, heater hoses, radiator hoses, and a few bolts.. just be sure to use the proper torque settings, and use anti seize thread compound..
