Hey guys. Have a 2003 Z06. Well, as I just purchased an Exedy Stage I Hyper Single-Disc clutch for a near heads/cam package...It's time to start zeroing in on a cam.
Car is a street toy. Needs to stay somewhat civil, and while I know I'm giving up some of that lowend, it can't all go away (No TREX's!). I'm looking for about 440rwhp, which I believe is almost conservative at this point in the game of H/C packages.
Will be getting a Stage II port job through FLP's partners-in-crime MET, and while they have their own cam that pulls the job...They've had 2 cars to pull those numbers just fine, but with a few more mods than I'll be doing.
I don't intend on getting an aftermarket airbox (simply a ziptie mod), nor an aftermarket exhaust (figure only a couple rw anyways, and don't need the extra noise)...Looking seriously at the SuperMaxx headers as they can get a good price on them, and they look like a good quality header for my application.
So...What cam would you guys recommend to near the goal? I'm erring on the side of safety with this project. Also, do you think double valvesprings are a necessity in such an app? Or as long as I change out singles in a timely manner, I'll be alright? Let me know what you guys think, I'm counting on you all! :reddevil
I'm seriously considering getting the t-rex on my Z as a daily driver. I'd like to make 440 rwhp with the trex and all the bolt ons. Is there any reason why you wouldnt use the trex every day? From what I'm seeing over on ls1 tech some guys are saying its not bad as a daily driver.
Do you all believe double valvesprings are a must when switching out the cam? I would rather spend the extra money, but when I asked a guy at the FLP, he said they just use singles and that the doubles aren't truly necessary. I had just heard the contrary so many times, but he did say they hadn't had any problems in their heads/cam LS1 or LS6's.
That part of the engine is just not the place to save a few bucks in my mind. A good set of singles will probly hold up but for a nominal amount extra you can buy a set you will never have to worry about it.
