I have a 2000 A4 with bolt ons that I run at the track turning 12.8s but
knock retarding all the way down the track/street on Sunoco 94 octane.
I really don' want to run race gas on the street. If I retard the timing with
my Predator the car goes slower if I richen the the fuel it goes slower.
Can a switch to a different spark plug reduce my knock problem ?
Iam running the stock AC plugs now ? I was thinking about NGK TR55 ?
You might have carbon build-up in one or more cylinders.
This can make it knock on an octane that normally would be OK.
Knock would not likely result from spark plugs unless one was badly coated with carbon build up. You should inspect the plugs and if they have material on them then try replacing them. Otherwise, you may need a de-carbonization treatment
Try ngk tr6 Have been using the in a non heads and cam car and no problems in about a year. Ngk tech reccommeneded this for my 2001 with knock problems. Ron B.
