Well, Guys and Gals, I finally took my '99 hardtop to the drag strip... I was hoping to get down into the mid/low 13's but my reaction time seems to be lacking...
Re: First time to the strip - question (2002Z28M6)
Definately a good 2 tenths there to be picked uo on your 60' time, even with EMTs. 2000-2500 is good advice for launch RPM. If you are hammering the gas pedal to the floor, don't. As the clutch comes out, go about 1/4 to 1/3 on the gas, wait for the tires to catch, the clutch to fully engage, then a steady push, not a slam, on the gas pedal till it hits the floor. You will probably be very close the rev limiter by the time that happens. If you are spinning in second (I always was with run flats), either do the same thing for second, or just granny shift second. Definately speed shift on 3rd and 4th.
If you can go around the waterbox and spin the tires just a little. If you can't get around it, do as much of a burnout as you can. Or better yet, have a tire fry, it'll quicken your need for new NON-EMT tires, heh. Beware soon as I got up to 324rwhp and put on Goodyear F1's, my ETs and 60' picked up, was running 13.1's and 13.0s, then went the stock clutch. Just a fair warning. Replaced it with the LS6 clutch, and it's been OK.
