is anyone out there using octane booster, either home brew or store bought? if so what kind of results?
i have been trying some home brew mixtures myself, mixed results...
here are some chemicals that i was told increase octane
1. xylene
2.toulene
3.mtbe
4.methanol, ethanol
5. alcohol
has anyone used unleaded racing fuel as a booster to pump gas?
need to find economical means of raising octane........... help............ :steering:
toulene is better but hard to find, Xylene is everywhere but it requires 2+ gallons per tankful and is cumbersome. I would recommend that you try Torco. I was a skeptic until I tried it and it works for me.
You can go to http://www.racegas.com and see if there are any gas stations near you selling Sunoco GT 100 (Also sold as CAM2 GT 100) at the pump. I was lucky enough to find a dealer near where I work. It doesn't come cheap though. I paid $5.79/gal.
You may check at your local motorcycle shops, ones that support motocross.
In the Denver area I buy 114 at Vickery Yamaha for my race bike and I mix
it 50/50 in the car when I go to the mountains.
most octane booster is a waste of money, and some of that crap can foul plugs. i just add a few gallons of race gas (110 octane low lead) that i get for $3.85/gal from the local truck stop, or i go out to the local airport (at night and when nobody is looking) and buy 120 octane aviation fuel from the runway pump (takes CC and costs $4/gal).

The only time you need higher octane is if your car is heavily modified or if you are running the car VERY HARD on HOT DAYS. Other than that 92 or above should be just fine.
