I installed a new Donaldson Blackwing with new air dam. Everything went well until next morning I got a Check Engine Light. I followed instructions but I also carefully cut out the screen on the stock MAF. Fuel efficiency went up and car appears to be running well. Any suggestions?

It may be the MAF, some people have reported problems with aftermarket and altered MAF's. The stock ones are good for pretty high HP numbers, so most people do not alter them.

I would suggest getting the code from your DIC, and seeing what it is, then just reset it and see if it returns. I removed my MAF screen when I added my Blackwing and have had no trouble.

I'm installing my new Blackwing tomorrow. Is it required to remove the MAF screen?
I didn't remember seeing that before.
Thanks for any inputs you might have. :lurk:

Can't thank you enough, with these instructions I was able to reset the codes
and the Check Engine light went out. I found out the codes were due to disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery during istallation of the Blackwing. A lot of people don't know the diagnostics built in to the car, I will bring it up at our next club meeting during Tech Session.

NO!! It is NOT required, it was just a "thing to do" while you were in there anyway. But let's think science for a second - the resistance provided by the small impacted surface area of the screen is really nil - There is no REAL hp gain there - it was just a fun little free mod. So relax, and enjoy the Blackwing - a REALLY GREAT mod!

:iagree: Left my MAF alone. No problems <knock on wood> ALSO, don't forget the computer has to re-learn the new air pattern. Needs about 200 miles or so.
Re: Blackwing Installed, Check Eng Lite On. (Nomar)
I removed the maf screens not only for more airflow but if you over oil your filter it makes it easy to get in there and clean the maf wires. Mine get pretty black.Just get some denatured alcohol (not rubbing----it has too much water in it) and clean it carefully with a couple Q-tips.
