Re: Cleaning Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor . Help!! (tocoman)
Get some non-lubricating electrical contact cleaner. Radio shack used to sell some, but I've not seen it for a while. I would be careful with anything else until someone pipes-up with some success stories.
In theory, any prepackaged spray solvent that will dissolve oil and evaporate residue-free should work. I don't imagine such solvents would harm the actual sensor material.
Re: Cleaning Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor . Help!! (tocoman)
What's the proper way to clean the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor? My dealer has raised concerns about my K&N causing problems.
Unless it's over-oiled, it shouldn't be causing any problems. Walk your service advisor into his parts department and ask if they will sell you a K&N filter... :smash:
Do a search on MAF cleaning, there are a number of ideas in the archives. Some recommendations are using brake cleaner, electronic circuit board cleaner, and alcohol and q-tips, just to name a few. I've never done it myself, haven't had any problems with oil from my blackwing getting on the MAF sensor wires. If I had to do it, electronic circuit board cleaner sounds like it would work without doing any damage. Whatever method you choose, be very careful not to damage the wires in the MAF or you'll probably be buying a new one. Good luck!
