The o2 sensors down stream watch for the o2's to change a bit when the AIR pump kicks in. If you have the ability to tune the car I'm sure you can turn that stuff off. Lots of people use AIR blockoff plates, so its definitly not an uncommon thing to do.

Well, I have actually heard of a few people that removed it and never saw a code! I've also heard of some that got codes after it, so it may depend on the year of if its a y-body vs an f-body.

What about the rumor that cats could be damaged by too rich at cold start??? The air pump is supposed to burn this off.
