I've been over to ls1tech.com and a bunch of f-body guys are running this cam in their daily drivers. Has anyone on this board ran one yet in their vet? The f-body guys say it pulls like a mad monkey and the mid range is violent. I rally want this cam but to much of a biaatch to be the first one to try it out.
From what I was told, you better watch out for Valve To Piston Clearance. Forged pistons with large valve reliefs is the only safe way to go. If they are using it with stock pistons, I bet there will be some dead motors in the near future.
Just bought a Trex off of a guy on LS1tech. Will be installing in my 2002 Z06, along with Comp 921 springs (and new retainers, seats, seals, pushrods, etc.).
All the info I can find (including from Thuder Racing) says that as long as you have stock heads and gaskets the Trex is well (define well?) within the spces for adequate piston-to-valve clearances.
I'll certainly turn it over several times by hand before turning the key.
I ought to be well into the install in a couple of weeks.
Just remember that what some nuts consider daily drivable migh tbe anything but to another. I know guys that drive F-bodys w/ skinnies/drag radials, no ac, high stalls w/ gears etc. etc. every day and like it. BUT, to me it'd be crazy driving around like that w/ the pipes/cam blaring, high rpms, and bad handling.

Sorry to say that turning it over several times by hand won't tell you much. . .
The hydraulic lifters will simply collapse under the force of those 921 springs without oil pressure; so you won't be seeing the cam's full lift until the engine's running. . . Alternatively, you could possibly temporarily substitute a couple of solid lifters of the exact same height or very light tension "test springs". . .
You're probably right on the turning over by hand won't really show much.
I may go ahead and check the clearances while I'm at it. It is not that much more to remove the heads at this point.
Won't be a real daily driver. Occasional daily driver to work (less than 2 miles). Other than that will be fair weather driver, vette/Z outings, track days, etc.
I am most likely going to go with this cam when I return to Colorado. I have aftermarket heads that have been milled so I have to fly cut my pistons but oh well. I love how it idles. Right now I have the TR 230/224. Kaley

Re: T-REX CAM.............. (vettethret)
VETTETHRET:
I say you throw in the G5x2 or x3 cam from LGM as those have proven now to be REALLY STRONG PERFORMERS in stock headed z06s while maintaining 100% streetability. I think that's the perfect combo of very aggressive C5 cam making big power and maintaining streetablilty and durability (but make sure you run the comp 921 dual springs).
