My C5 is five years old and it is time to change the anti-freeze. My garage friend advises that the GM Dexcool product tends to flake up in the cooling system and radiator and suggests Peak Global 50/50 mix to get the protection down to -34.
Has anybody had any experience with the GM product or the Peak Global product???
Also, is the radiator drain easily accessible????
Any advice will be helpful.
As long as you keep your coolant level at full you'll not have any problems with the Dexcool.
That Peak Global stuff is a one-size-fits all antifreeze. Perhaps it's fine. They say it won't void your warrantee, I'd check with someone at Chevrolet before switching.
Stay with the DexCool. That stuff he is talking about is old wive's tales. Some people may have had problems back in 96 when GM first started using Dexcool because they didn't understand it but those days are long gone. Remember you have an aluminum engine and GM says that other brands may have ingredients that could harm the engine. I just changed my wife's 99 Saturn's coolant two weeks ago. With 30K miles on the car it looked like the day it was put in the radiator. No issues with the coolant at all. I went 4 years on my 97 Vette before I touched the coolant but that was because I was putting a racing radiator in the car. Again the coolant was just like new.
Make sure you get the Texaco Dexcool and not another brand's look alike. In my area the only place I can get it is WalMart.

Re: AntiFreeze -- Peak Global ???? (wwashing)
Stay with the Dexcool. I changed mine at 76,000 miles on my 98 coupe. Also: Make sure you use Distilled Water to make up any difference when refilling. :chevy
