Default Help with Electronic Vapor Lock (???)

Some time ago a read a post from someone who had a problem similar to mine and I seem to remember that the problem was electronic related.

Here is my issue. 00 Vert 15K miles. Had it out the other day, started up fine no problems and took it out. About 15 mins after leaving I start to notice a misfire and hesitation at low rpm's. When I go to WOT in nuetral it seems to level out and the same when I get it up to speed in 3, 4th gears. Car now runs rough like it is missing a cylinder at low rpm and check engine light is on. Curiously, my remote had to be reprogrammed before I took off that day. But the reprogram worked fine and car started OK.

Engine is not stock, but no internal mods yet. Intake, headers, still has cats on etc. No current codes in IPC, but a bunch of historical. Bothersomeones are U1096,U1064,U1016 that relate to missing communication.

Any ideas before she goes back to FLP. Only historical issues were what I thought was a small engine knock immediately after the headers were installed. But car sat all winter and now when I am ready to drive .....!!!!!

I thought I read last time about something to reset the electronics that fixed the hesitation. I read recently that plugs can go bad. But it was all at once and immediate when the problems started.

HELP
Thanks
Dave

U codes are nothing to worry about. What were the P codes, even the historical ones?

The U codes are nothing. They come with the car. Mine have had those codes since new.

Since you mention headers any chance you have burned a plug lead or banged up a plug? Start the car at night and look for arcing. Look for anything that is preventing a good spark from getting to the combustion chamber. It could be something as simple as a plug wire getting knocked loose.

Rich;

Thanks, I think that was it. I had a new set of Red Racing Wires that I bought at the Fun Fest last year, waiting for the opportune time to be installed. Today was the lucky day. I had forgotten what it was like to bust up a few knuckles and cut open your fingers. I replaced all the wires and fired her up and now she purrs. Seems to be even better than before. And sure enough, the last plug wire, the hardest one to reach, driver side closest to the firewall had a burn mark where it was touching the header.

One thing. I noticed when replacing the pax side that one of the wires did NOT have the metal jacket that went around the boot nearest the engine side. And of course the one that was burnt on the other side had no jacket either. One side on the front the other side on the back. So I am guessing that the installer forgot to put two of the metal jackets back on. I thought it might have been because they were close to the headers, but I reinstalled the burnt one with a new one and the metal jacket to be safe. I left off one that was easy to reach so that I can replace it if necessary.

Anyone tell me if ALL the plug wires are to have the metal jacket. Just curious. This was I'll have something to tell my installer and I can replace the two that are missing.

Thanks again, the temps are in the 80's here in Chitown and it just bummed me to no end that we had this nice a weather in April and my car sounded like it had gas.

Glad you found it. Not sure on the metal jackets. My guess is that they just are there for better mechanical holding strength.
