Transmission locked up last night on my 98 6 speed. I was running the car hard A couple of hours before hand. It happened when I was down shifting from 2nd to 1st gear at about 20 mph thats when I heard a grinding sound. When I tryed to take off after stoping it would not move, than I tryed to go in reverse it would only go for A couple of feet than it would lock up. I was less than a mile from my house and managed to limp it home, in first gear with no grinding but it would jump in and out of gears.
I spent the day removing the trans from the car(major PITA!!), There was only about 2 ozs of trans fluid that drained out.(factory or previous owner did not top off ??) I now have the trans on my bench after removing both outer case halfs I do not see any broken gears? The car just turned 10K miles I justed installed A 4:10 gear and 100 shot N2o.
Can any one tell me if the shop manual shows how to rebuild a 6 speed?
or is there any one in the Detroit area that can rebuild it without rapeing me?
I hope someone can point me in the right direction or e-mail me step by step instruction on breaking this thing down.
Or is there any one that has one for sale? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Send an IM to crashed94 (Rodney), or do a thread search, some of the posts have his phone number. He appears to be a recognized authority on these transmissions, and has built and sold many to forum members who swear by him.
Eventually I'll bomb mine, and probably have to make the same call
Good luck!
The only thing that makes sense to do when you are face a major repair, is get some profit out of it. A stage IV M6 and an Exedy clutch would be my $.02
