I was hoping some of you tech wizards may have an idea or two on a little problem I have noticed. I have a 99 A4 and have noticed that there seems to be an intermittent engine surge when I am at a little over 2,000 RPM (going around 65 - 75 mph). The surge doesn't seem consistent, however it does seems to show up more when it is warm outside. Today must have been the worst it has been. I checked my airbox and all connections seem to be tight around the MAF and throttle body. Any suggestions on what it could be? I checked my codes, but nothing came up that should cause this problem. I am thinking that it is time to take it to the shop, but would like to hear what the forum may think it is so I go in there informed.
I am hoping that it is something to do with fuel/air/spark. However has anybody ever hear of an engine surge caused by a bad torque converter or something along those lines. The car accelerates like a beast so I figured the transmission is fine, but want to know if this could be a cause as well.
Thanks for the input Buckmaster. Makes me feel a bit better.
As I was checking for any possible leaks, I tried to start my car and guess what??? The battery was dead. I took it out in the nick of time since the positive terminal started to leak as I unscrewed the terminal out. Damn lucky on that one. Just curious, but could a dying battery cause air/fuel mixture issues if the computers weren't getting enough juice?
