Default Z06 cam installed in LS1

Hi,
Just wanted to know if I install a 2002 Z06 cam in a 99 LS1 what needs to be changed. I understand that the springs need to be upgraded for the higher lift. But what about the pushrods, what is the stock size and do they need to be changed for the length or strength. :seeya Thanks

AFAIK the ls6 pushrods are identical to the ls1 pushrods. Plenty of people out there using stock pushrods on all sorts of cams.

If you're going to go through the effort of changing the cam, you might as well put a BIG one in there, don't you think? :jester

Unless you are going to be putting a blower on I would go bigger. With the way the tuners have advanced the breed in the last couple of years you can get great power with near stock drivability -

Just don't forget to upgrade your springs they will be your next weak point in the valve train

A C T U A L L Y....

The pushrods are a different length, but many of the sponsoring tuners on the forum just use the factory LS1 pushrods and let the lifters take the difference.

The LS6/ZO6 cam has approximately a 0.050" smaller base circle than a stock LS1 camshaft. This smaller base circle will require longer pushrods for applications with stock length valves.

Here is a link to SDPC with a little more info... If you are **** about the details they (SDPC) can sale you a set of 7.450" LS1 Manley Pushrods that would make the difference...

Good Luck,

That link you posted says that the Valves are different length on the ls6, not the pushrods. Just that when using a ls6 cam in a ls1 head, you need different pushrods to make up the difference in valve length.

It seems to imply that the ls6 pushrods are the same length.

Anyhow, Im not expert, just repeating what Ive heard before on here.

The 2002 LS6 pushrods are the same length as the LS1 pushrobs but as noted the 2002 LS6 valves are longer to make up the difference of the 0.050 smaller base circle of the 2002 LS6 cam. Use of pushrods that are 0.050 longer should position the lifter in the same spot as stock with LS1 length valves.

When you add the cost of the new pushrods to the cost of the 2002 LS6 cam you are pretty close to the price of most aftermarket cams. Why not just go with a mild aftermarket cam and get more performance than the 2002 LS6 cam for about the same money

The cam shaft is .05 smaller but I think that is only .025 on each side, so if the PR are .05 larger that would be .025 to long. :beatdeadhorse:

Check dyno sheets out in sig. My car dynoed 352rwhp with only a ls6 cam, slp lm, and twinflow intake, There is a comparison that we did of an 03 6sp and it dynoed 307 so for the money its not a bad choice. I was lucky that my car already came with it in. If money was no option then go bigger but this small cam will let you run with a z06 without a problem.

Now that's what I like to see, 352 RWHP without headers and upgraded heads :hurray: I would be happy with those numbers, Good job :D
