Default Intake and Header questions

I'm getting ready to buy a new intake and new headers. What brands perform the best? I know LG and Kooks headers are good brands but is there one that is better than the other? I'm going to purchase the off road package. Now to the intakes I was thinking about the VaraRam. Is that the best performing intake?

Yeah, I figured that. I've read a lot of the other posts but it always seems split right down the middle.

The discussions on which header is best is WELL published in this forum...damn near caused another civil war. The one you left out was the Supermaxx, which is almost idetentical to the LG's I paid $1,250 for em an they are due this week. Jury is still out on that. The only thing I can say about intakes is that too is a well published subject. I went with the Vortex because of several member voiced their concernes about the filtering element with the Vararam. I don't screw around with filter elements I just get the best you can buy and in this case it was the Vortex/K&N
So, that's just my opinion. :D

I already have the Vortex on my car but most of the fast cars on here are running the VaraRam and Kooks or LG headers. I'm going to sell my B&B shorties and my Bassani x-pipe. So if anyones interested.

'00. LG Pro long tubes W/ hi-flo cats, Borla Stingers, LS6 intake, and Halltech TRAP. 354 rwhp/ 364 rwtq. Can't argue with that....

IMO, any stainless steel header is an improvement over the stock cast iron pipes. LG's, KOOKs, Stainless Works, or SuperMaxx are all very good choices and the overall gains (after Edit/dyno tuning) will be within <5% of each other. :yesnod:

It's difficult to say because nobody's posted results from a back to back comparison on the same car, but the Kooks and LG Pro headers are pretty much regarded as the best.

:iagree:

..but I'd sure like to see a comparison...and to boot, I'd like to see the LG lookalikes (DynaTech?) thrown into the mix.....

Headers:
I can't speak for the LG's, but thier design looks pretty close to optimum. I just purchased Kooks because they were about $600 cheaper than LG's and their performance is supposed to be in the ballpark. The Kooks are an equal length tube with a spike collector for directing the exhaust. They are shorter than the LG's and therefore suffer from less problem associated with O2 sensor codes. I currently have Stainless Works with RT cats and full 3" midsection. They were easy to install, fit well, are built well, perform well, are the lightest system, made with 304 stainless, have never thrown a code, and come with a limited lifetime guarantee. Why am I changing? I'm hoping for a few more ponies.
Intakes:
I have a Vararam. I think it is the best overall system for my car. The problem I have with a Haltech Trap is, I would need to remove my license plate and in NJ I'd get a ticket in about an hour. I have a friend with a Trap. He has had problems with the plastic intake collapsing at the front clamp and unmetered air getting by and throwing a code. The problem I have with the VaraRam is that I don't like to drive it in the rain. I'm afraid of hydrolock. ALL the bottom breather cold air intakes suffer from this though. I don't drive in the rain and the VaraRam really does make power at speed. You can feel it. What are the best? Apples and Oranges... There I've :beatdeadhorse: again.
