I bought my car with a Vortex air set-up so I do not know how it sounded before, but when I accelerate, I get a whistle sound from under the hood. Is this normal, or should I dig deeper to see where it is coming from.
I have a crack on one side of where the clear vortex bolts up to the shroud, but I can't imagine air escaping through there would cause the whistle.
Keep in mind it only happens when I accelerate...ones the car flattens out and I have a constant speed, the sound goes away....it is louder the harder I accelerate.
Had same problem on my 2000, it might be the intake...GM had a bulletin
on whistling intakes...theres a thread on here somewhere that explains the
sound and how to fix it cheap...if I remember right its using some epoxy
to fill a part of the intake right after the tb..hope this helps
After installing my vortex I noticed the filter for the air pump inlet hose makes a whistling sound. It doesn't happen everytime I accelerate. Seems like mostly under part throttle acceleration from idle, which I assume is when the air pump kicks in to pump fresh air into the exhaust to aid the catalytic converter do its thing.
The air pump filter is mounted next to the vortex shroud on the radiator shroud that's cut to install the filter. If that's it, you'll be able to hear it with the hood open and some else hitting the throttle. I haven't heard of too many people complain about it, so maybe breathless performance changed to a different filter at some point. Mine is a small black plastic box (like 1"x1"x2") with a circular intake opening and a white fiberglass like filter material.
Mine whistles loudly at part throttle accel. Thought it was the intake whistle everyone talks about, but when I had the blower installed, the whistle remained.
It's the K&N filter on mine, there is a resonance across the filter media.
I actually like it. People hear it, and say "Oh cool, is that the supercharger??" I say nope, bury the throttle and say "THAT'S the supercharger.." :D
Don't worry about it; if it bothers you too much you can replace it with another air intake.
It's normal , nothing to worry about , as someone mentioned bbk throttle bodies really whistle . my black on black z is known in the neighborhood as the stealth bomber. The whistle is muffled in stock air box , most aftermarket air systems will amplify this whistle, vararam vr1b systems with bbk throttle body sounds like turbo's spooling up, unfortunatly there is the absence of boost.

Re: Whistle on acceleration??? (SQEZN BI)
My TRAP has a nice whistle to it. At first, it was very supercharger-like. After I got my new LS6 intake manifold (and I'm sure they moved the TRAP doing it), it's more of a very low whine on part-throttle accel...
This is a technical service bulletin for repair of this problem, it is not a recall. It covers 2001 Corvettes LS1, LS6 engines. TSB # 02-06-01-021
Some owners may comment on a whistle noise coming from either the intake manifold or the throttle body. The noise is most noticeable between 1100 and 2000 RPM.
This bulletin calls for replacing the intake manifold.
I had the same problem in my 97 brought it to the dealer 3 times and they never fixed it, I ended up switching air filters from the K&N cone I had to the black wing and I never heard it after that.
